Do you ever feel like all you do is forgive some of the people in your life? Someone says or does something rude, ok I will forgive them. That same person talks about you behind your back, ok I will forgive them. Sometimes it feels like we forgive some people in our lives so much that we just get tired of it.
In Genesis, Joseph is a great example of forgiveness, because he was constantly forgiving people for doing things against him:
He was hated by his brothers - Genesis 37:4-5, 8
His brothers plotted to kill him - Genesis 37:18
His brothers threw him in a pit - Genesis 37:24
His brothers sold into slavery, taken to a foreign land and purchased by a master - Genesis 37:28 & 36
Because of the situation his brothers put him in he was falsely accused of rape, bound and thrown into prison - Genesis 39:20
Because of the situation his brothers put him in He was forgotten by someone he helped - Genesis 40:23
Maybe you feel like Joseph. We all do at times, but look at what Jesus had to say about this in Mathew 18:21-22 "Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.”
Jesus said to not keep a record of how many times we forgive someone, but to keep forgiving. Because God is your Dad and He forgave you for everything then you should forgive everything someone else does against you.
